The Degenerate's Digest v.1

It’s that time of year again! I opened up my book a little early for the Mayweather/McGregor fight last weekend, but this weekend – it’s all about the gridiron.

Typically, I would be betting on KHL hockey (Russian hockey league) individual point totals this time of year, but since I have to provide this site with actual content – I’ll give the people what they want.

I’ll keep things simple and to the point for you jabroni’s just looking for the spread, the moneyline locks, and the over/under’s. We start with Week 1 College Football…

(5) Clemson vs. Kent State: OVER 51

I LOVE the over here. People are saying that Clemson’s offense isn’t going to be as good this season, and yea – it probably won’t be. But you don’t make the spread on this game 39.5 and throw the o/u only 11 points further. This is a lead pipe lock.

Final Score: Clemson 48 Kent State 13

(6) Penn State vs. Akron: Penn State -30.5

Trace McSorley, Saquon Barkley, Juwan Johnson, this Nittany Lions squad is loaded with great names. I’m not the biggest believer in James Franklin, but the depth chart speaks for itself. Penn State is my favorite to win the Big 10 this season, with a record of 10-2. They’ll have some tough times (that road game @ Ohio State (could be the deciding game for who takes home conference title)) but I think they have a great shot. They are going to come out in front of a packed house at Beaver Stadium and make a mockery of Akron. Take the spread here people.

Final Score: Penn State 42 Akron 9

I would do Oklahoma/UTEP but to be honest, for a degenerate gambler as myself, these easy match-ups are kind of boring me. If you want a breakdown on some of these Top 25 teams playing high school powder puff squads, refer to my first 2 locks and you’ll get an idea of where my money would be going. Onto the real match-ups of the weekend…

(11) Michigan vs. (17) Florida: OVER 43

I don’t think either of these teams are going to do anything crazy this year. But, one thing is for sure when considering the final score of this match-up; it’s Week 1, mistakes will be plentiful. Sure, Florida can’t find a quarterback and Michigan’s offense is stacked with a bunch of Freshman. But that doesn’t mean the defenses for these squads are going to be the end all be all for the full 60 minutes. It only takes one mistake to bring you that much closer to the over. Lock it in.

Final Score: Michigan 27 Florida 21

(3) Florida State vs. (1) Alabama: Alabama -7.0

Listen, Florida State is going to be good this season, I get that. And I know I am kind of contradicting myself by saying Alabama won’t be making mistakes regardless of the Week 1 jitters. Alabama is the iPhone of College Football, and Florida State may as well be a flip phone in this match-up from my perspective. Roll Tide.

Final Score: Alabama 42 Florida State 28

I know, these picks are going to make you a hefty chunk of change on Saturday. You’re going to wake up on Sunday morning with a renewed sense of comfort and joy. But you’re also going to be foaming at the mouth for more action – this is classic symptoms of a degenerate gambler, welcome to the club. Luckily, we have a SUNDAY STEAM alert for college football this weekend…

(22) West Virginia vs. (21) Virginia Tech: West Virginia +4.0

I bet this line moves to 2.5 by Sunday morning, so jump on it while you can. Will Grier, a transfer from Florida, is going to change the game at West Virginia. Not necessarily for the better, but definitely for this game. This rivalry is going to get heated, and I could absolutely see it coming down to a field goal (I don’t know, maybe something like West Virginia misses a 46 yarder to lose the game). But you know what, they’ll still cover! Put some of your Saturday winnings on this spread and enjoy the ride on Sunday night.

Final Score: Virginia Tech 25 West Virginia 23

There you have it folks, the first installment of the Degenerate’s Digest. I hope I win a lot of you guys’ money throughout the season, mainly because if you’re not winning, I’m not winning.

And I’m a winner, and winner’s win.
