No, Colin Cowherd, you are dumb.

So I am sure by now most people in the Philadelphia area have heard about Colin Cowherd going out of his way to shit on Philly fans to somehow back up his point that Andy Reid is a great coach. If you haven't seen it, here it is. He goes on for about 3 minutes on the subject:

Bottom line, his argument is a fucking joke, much like the man himself. He is completely off base with every single point he makes in this segment. Lets break it down:

The first point, which is basically the crux of his whole anti-Philly tirade, is that us Philly fans ran Andy Reid out of town, and we must be stupid because the guy has won 60% of his games and he did so with "below average quarterbacks". First of all, I think its a safe bet to say that an overwhelming majority of Eagles fans appreciate what Andy Reid did for the organization. There is no doubt that he was the main factor in what was the greatest stretch of football that was ever played in Philadelphia. Obviously, there are some fans that will never get over the fact that Andy never won in the biggest moments. And I think there's a small part of every Eagles fan that is salty about that. But were not ignorant to the fact that he was the greatest coach we have ever had.

Colin, ever the nuanced talking head, overlooks is the circumstances surrounding the teams decision to fire Reid. The Eagles parted with many of their core pieces of his successful era, including Brian Dawkins in 2009 and Donovan McNabb in 2010. In 2009, defensive coordinator Jim Johnson passed away during training camp. And, above all else, during the Dream Team Era of 2011-12 Andy Reid's son died of a heroin overdose at Lehigh University during training camp. Reid had been going through the ringer in his personal and professional life during this time period, and it started to show on the field. He was making odd personnel decisions, and maybe most troubling was his decision to promote offensive line coach Juan Castillo to defensive coordinator. All of this led to a 4-12 season in 2012, which obviously led the fans to start to call a little bit louder for his firing. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision for Jeffery Lurie, but honestly in the long run it was the best case scenario for both parties given the circumstances. To drum this up to, "stupid Eagles fans got Andy Reid fired what fucking idiots", to make your point that Reid is a good coach is the laziest piece of shit argument I have seen in a long time. Sure, Eagles fans are vocal when they aren't happy with the results. But what fan base isn't? To top it off, his joke about how Eagles fans don't like Reid because we can't read, is something I would have come up with when I was 12. Not to mention, McNabb most certainly wasn't below average, and he used antiquated stats to try and back that point up. Pure garbage.

His second point is really just hilarious. He then goes on to liken the Reid situation to Philly fans running Terry Francona out of town, one of the greatest managers in baseball history. I guess he didn't remember that Terry Francona's stop in Philly was his first as a manager, and during that time he racked up a record of 285-363 and didn't come close to winning a division title during those three seasons. How the hell were Philadelphia fans supposed to predict he was going to go on to be a great manager? He didn't even get picked up to be a manager again until 4 years after being fired by the Phillies! Fuck outta here with that bullshit. I didn't realize you invented a time machine for us to see how good he was going to become. Would have been nice if you let everyone know back in 1999.

Finally, in what somehow is actually worse than the point about Terry Francona, is his example of Jay Wright, coach of Villanova Men's Basketball. He uses him as another example of Philly fans wanting to run great coaches out of town, and that if Villanova didn't win in 2016 we would have wanted him fired. Villanova isn't even in Philadelphia, so majority of people in the city couldn't care less about them. Is it nice when they win? Sure. But there's this little thing called the Big 5 (6 if you count Drexel), that exists within the culture of Philadelphia college basketball. You obviously knew this because you referenced how many universities their are in the city. No shit people talk bad about Jay Wright, majority of the city probably roots for one of the other schools. I respect Jay Wright, but as a Temple grad I talk a bunch of shit on the guy. This point, out of all of them, just goes to show he really doesn't know anything about the people of Philadelphia. I really don't know how this example even came into his mind when he threw together this piece for his awful radio show.

It is obvious the guy didn't put any thought into this stupid accusation. And I'm sure that he did it with full intentions to stir the pot and get everyone explaining why us Philadelphia fans aren't dumb. That's what these talking heads get paid to do. But since I have already spent the time defending our great fan base, I may as well give my rebuttal to this jackass.

Colin, you have no room to be calling people dumb. As you have shown over the course of your career, you are nothing but a loud mouth, racist, blowhard that somehow keeps getting employed because networks these days love to dump money into controversy instead of good sports takes. Lets look at the facts, shall we?

  • Colin Cowherd blamed Washington Redskins great Sean Taylor for his own murder. He claimed that Taylor's own past transgressions and bad behavior caught up to him and compared to his supposed cleaning up of his image to trying to get stains out of your carpet. Truly despicable comments.

  • In what seems to be a theme for this guy, Cowherd went on numerous racially charged rants about how John Wall must not be very smart because he did the dougie before games. How dancing and having fun while playing a child's game for a living somehow is indicative of your character and intelligence level is obviously ridiculous.

  • He said that Roger Goodell is the first discipline much of the mostly black NFL player pool has ever received because a lot of them didn't have dads. I don't even want to get started on the levels of wrong that statement is.

  • Cowherd, while talking about how much he loved the city of Oregon, cited that the fact there was "mostly white people" there was a reason why it was so awesome.

  • And maybe most famously, Colin Cowherd argued that baseball isn't a complex sport because a third of the players are Dominicans, and Dominicans aren't very intelligent people as a whole. The guy really should be the Press Secretary for Donald Trump. (shouts to Deadspin for expertly documenting Cowherd's idiocy)

At the end of the day, don't sweat this one Philly fans. We know that we can be a bit overbearing and jump to conclusions too early, but our intelligence should not be mistaken with the passion that sometimes overtakes our common sense. Don't let this asshole dampen the fact we have been the talk of the NFL for taking over Carson City this past weekend. Keep doing you. As for Colin, maybe if this fraud actually took calls on his radio show he would think twice before spewing bullshit takes like this. Just remember this if he ever decides he has the balls to take a trip to the City of Brotherly Love. I'm sure you will show him how hospitable we are to clowns like him.
