Z. Godley (4.3; 3.78) v B. Suter (3-3; 4.72)
Pick: Milwaukee Brewers
The ‘Backs are in a SLUMP… 0 in their last 5 and 1 in their last 9 Arizona is losing to teams they’d normally mop the floor with. A lack of production from All Star first basemen, Paul Goldschmidt, and a tough wrist injury to break out star AJ Pollock have undoubtedly contributed to this slide, but it seems pitching is what is hurting them the most. Don’t expect a “Godly” resurrection today from righty Zach Godley; just more of the same. Milwaukee smacks Arizona – 100-0.
M. Fulmer (1-3; 4.35) v K. Gibson (1-2; 3.96)
Pick: Detroit Tigers
I like the Tiggers in this one (no that’s not a spelling error). Neither of these teams excites me in any way, but if you’re regular to this segment, you know I love good pitching, and we get that today in Mike Fulmer. As the prized prospect sent to the Tigers via the Mets in the Yoenis Céspedes trade, this 25 year old righty has been the “Great Young Hope” on an otherwise aging Detroit roster. Although his ERA this year could use a little tweaking, Fulmer has shown a great ability to reel in the K’s, notching 7 or more per 6 innings in 5 of his last 5 starts. Give him two runs Detroit and let Big Mike do the rest. I don’t see the Twinkies as much of a challenge today. Even at home…
J. Junis (5-3; 3.51) v M. Wacha (5-1; 3.08)
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals
Kansas City is an abysmal 6-16 in day games this year, their opponent? 12-9. This one spells itself out- I’m taking Wacha Flaka Flame and the boys.
J. Samardzija (1-2; 6.30) v J. Verlander (5-2; 1.05)
Pick: Houston Astros
I thought this matchup was a joke when I first saw it. Samardzija vs Verlander? Is San Fran a fan of torture? Is this like a fetish of theirs- watching bigger, badder teams beat up on them? The only thing sexy about this matchup is what’s gunna go on in the clubhouse afterwards between J-Dawg and SI Swimsuit’s finest. Astros by a jillion.
T. Ross (3-3; 3.35) v E. Fedde (-- ; --)
Pick San Diego Padres
Upset alert! I like some Padres in today’s #BPS finale. Tyson Ross is tricky good, giving up only 3 runs with 9K’s in his last 12 innings and I think he can catch Washington sleeping today. The Padres have played the Nationals tough this year (already matching up 5 times in the regular season) and know this team well. I’m taking experience in this one as Tyson Ross shows first time starter, Erick Fedde how the big dogs play.
