Holy Bye Week!
The Digest is BACK and better than ever. College Football has been a goldmine this season, and I took my mid-season bye just in time for the betting world to be flipped upside down. Back on the saddle this week as we head into Week 9. “Give me the picks Joey Digest, give me the picks!” That’s all I have been hearing lately. It’s crazy how many dedicated degenerate’s I have produced over the past year with this blog. Luckily for you addict’s I’m back to give you your fix. Let’s go!
(9) Florida @ (7) Georgia: Georgia -1
A pick’em at home!? Seriously!? What a layup to come back to from the nerds in Vegas. You’re not going to give the CLEARLY superior Bulldogs a bone of -3 at home? Silly silly Vegas. I can get behind a strong performance behind a Gator defense that will surely be jacked up from the start – and possibly have a solid first half. But Jake Fromm is not going to let them overcome on his own field, especially after the LSU loss. You’re taking the Bulldogs here without a doubt.
Final Score: Georgia 32, Florida 21
(21) USF @ Houston: USF +8
What a game for the American Athletic. We could very well see one of these two teams win the conference. USF is undefeated sitting at 7-0 but it is a SOFT 7-0. This is the perfect opportunity for Houston to give them their first loss in a big divisional game. With that said, I can’t say an undefeated team is just going to get blown out of the water. D’Eriq King is going to need a monster day again for the Cougars if they want to win this one – and I think he will, but it is going to be a shootout. USF will receive their first loss in the end, but they will cover.
Final Score: Houston 41, USF 35
(12) Kentucky @ Missouri: Kentucky +7
Really? A touchdown for the Tigers? Okay – fine, I’ll take the points again Vegas you dummies. Kentucky has just one loss on their books with an overtime loss to A&M (and that was on the road). Missouri lost to South Carolina. I mean, that’s really all you need to look at. Don’t get me wrong, this is going to be a close one. Missouri can put up points and over the past two weeks the Kentucky secondary has gotten shredded - swiss cheese style (talking holes folks). But to say that the Tigers get a touchdown on a team who has had little to no issues on the road and is vying to remain in the top of the SEC East standings, while Missouri is 0-3 in conference play… well that just doesn’t add up for me. I’m trusting Kentucky’s defense today in a must-win game for them to keep the magic they’ve had all season long.
Final Score: Kentucky 28, Missouri 27
(6) Texas @ Oklahoma State: UNDER 62.5
THICK SACK ALERT! Ehlinger is starting. People have been saying all week that Texas is going to lose this game because he has a booboo on his shoulder. Don’t they understand if they lose this game it’s going to be cause Oklahoma State can put up points at home? How do these analysts have jobs? Sammy is going to be forced to respond to the Cowboys offense by having a game of his own – and I think he’ll be just fine. The test of note for the pick here will be on the defensive side of the ball for both teams. If Sam is in fact struggling like people are suggesting, then the Longhorns defense is going to need to compensate against Taylor Cornelius (nerd). And I think they do just that on the road in what most are calling a sure win for the home team. Texas plays WVU next week – no chance they go into that with a loss today. The defense gets it done.
Final Score: Texas 28, Oklahoma State 24
(16) Texas A&M @ Mississippi State: Texas A&M OUTRIGHT
There is really only one thing to look at when taking the Aggies here, and that is their schedule comparison. They have only lost 2 games, and both of those losses came at the hands of the top 2 teams in the nation, Alabama and Clemson. The Clemson game had some controversial calls that really could have changed the outcome, so let’s say for today’s purposes they tie that game. And they put up 23 on Alabama – the second most points that has been posted on that defense all season. Yet, Vegas wants to be concerned about this game? As Ari Gold would so famously put it, get the fuck out. Miss State got smoked by Kentucky – and who is the only team to beat Kentucky? The Aggies. Not to mention A&M still has Auburn, Ole Miss, and LSU on their schedule. This is not their let down game.
Final Score: Texas A&M 23, Mississippi State 18
