It’s been 72 hours since the Sixers announced a trade that would acquire Jimmy Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
It seems so long ago doesn’t it? I mean – Jimmy Butler is a household name in the tri-state area already. With the state of the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers fans complaining about winning, Jimmy is the talk of the town. So, before his debut on Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic, let’s sit back and recount where we all were when we found out Jimmy butler was about to be a Philadelphia 76er.
Where were Matt and myself?
Matt and I had planned to hangout this past Saturday and watch the Flyers demolish the Blackhawks, crush some pizza and wings, and throw back the Victory Superfecta (Hop Devil, Golden Monkey, Prima Pills, Sour Monkey) as well as some people’s gold. It was a great November Saturday. I woke up, did some chores around the house, wrote the Digest, got all the leaves off my deck, and got ready for some Flyers hockey. It was quite chilly, so I even decided to get the first fire of the season going. The day could not be going any better.
So here we are, just before puck drop, dreams of a Moose shutout and Giroux dekes ahead. When all of a sudden, we hear a noise from upstairs.
My roommate Andrew was packing for his work trip to the Sunshine State, so there was no need to be concerned of an intruder...
“We got (mumbled noises)”.
I turn to Matt who immediately goes wide-eyed.
“What did you say Andrew!?” Matt yells.
“The Sixer’s just traded for Jimmy Butler”.
No words were exchanged for a couple of seconds that felt like years.
Matt and I just looked at each other then immediately rushed to Twitter.
And there it was, right in front of me, the tweet that made every Boston Celtic fan cower in fear.
The remainder of the day was filled with hypotheticals, deep conversation about the team and how Jimmy would fit, and predictions on how this would affect the Sixers in the future. But most importantly, the remainder of the day was filled with laughter and joy. And of course a Flyers 4-0 victory. Thank you for that, Jimmy Butler. I would also like to take this time to thank Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless, and Elton Brand for this moment. It could not have been had without you all.
Where was Pat?
Pat decided to decline our Flyers watch party invite, so he was unable to experience the same moment described above. He was, however, out at brunch with a bunch of chicks in New York wearing pink wigs I guess?
I’m not entirely positive of his whereabouts, all I know is an anonymous source sent The Stoop an encrypted hard drive with only one file on it.
After much deliberation, I have decided to release this file to the public – as it in fact shows ‘where Pat was’ when he found out Jimmy Butler was traded to the 76ers. Warning – the image below may be disturbing to some audiences.
Matt and I are convinced Pat was a part of a cosplay for the new Nutcracker and the Four Realms, with Pat obviously taking the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Regardless, the man had a smile on his face – because of Jimmy Butler.
I feel like this blog was necessary for historical purposes. Set the record straight so after the Sixers win oh I don't know - 3 straight titles, we can come back and reminisce on what exactly we were doing with our lives the day Jimmy Butler came. Some of us were pounding brews, some of us probably fixing our makeup. But at the end of the day, knowing that we were all smiling is what’s most important.
