Wednesday, April 3rd Business Person Special

April 3, 2019 #BPS – Season Record: 0/0 – 100%

Welcome to the Business Person Special! Where cube monkeys come to play hooky, and degenerates come to win rent. If there’s an MLB game on Wednesday afternoon, I gotchya covered. So come on! Grab a snack, maybe even a cold one, and join me as I aim to predict each and every MLB game this season played on our favorite day – Wednesday Afternoons!

F. Peralta (0-0; 12.00) v L. Castillo (0-0; 1.59)

The Brew Crew have been one of the hottest teams in baseball coming out of the gate this season with reigning MVP, Christian Yelich, launching souvenirs to the boys and girls of Milwaukee (and maybe even that creep Zack Hample) night in and night out…BUT today will not be that day… Luis Castillo, one of the most promising young arms in baseball, will take the mound this afternoon as he looks to avenge his Opening Day No-Decision vs the Pirates; a game where Castillo sent 8 batters packing in merely 5 and 2/3rd innings. With Luis keeping the Brewers at bay, Cincy’s revamped offense takes care of business against Mr. Donkey Brains – Freddy Peralta and his 12.00 ERA. Big Red wins our #BPS opener.

Pick: Cincinnati Reds (100 to win 80)

A. Nola (1-0; 1.50) v A. Sanchez (0-0; --)

After initially falling victim to the boo birds last night, Bryce Harper seized the moment in the 8th, smashing a Jeremy Hellickson fastball deep into the nose bleeds. It was the cherry on top to a monstrous Washington Homecoming for the former MVP as he drove in 3, scored 1, and smacked 2 doubles in the process. Bryce wasn’t the only one to partake in the celebration however as teammates Maikel Franco & Odubel Herrera put in work of their own combining for 5 hits (including a HR from Franco & 3 doubles from Herrera), and 4 runs scored. These efforts were then compounded by the success, starting pitcher, Zack Eflin produced, outperforming former CY Young award winner Max Scherzer through 5, striking out NINE and handing the Nationals the goose egg. What does this mean for today’s game? With Phillies ace, Aaron Nola on the mound? BLOWOUT BEECHEEESSSS!! Put your house on this game. Phillies win in dominating fashion.

Pick: Philadelphia Phillies (100 to win 71)

C. Rodon (0-1; 3.38) v C. Kluber (0-1; 2.57)

Every Wednesday the #BPS lays us a small surprise…she nestles a little egg, hidden to the common eye, within each afternoon’s slate for only the strongest to find. That search is not always easy, but it’s why you’ve come here. To me. Your baseball savant – to find you that money egg. Ladies and gentleman, I present you – THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX! The average fan looks at this game and scoffs. The White Sox? Versus Corey Kluber? This guys must be high. And you wouldn’t be wrong…high on money that is (insert smirking emoji face). For my BPS diehards, you know I’ve always been high (pun intended) on the White Sox. They’re not a team to sacrifice your mortgage on, but a team you can surely count on to win you that quick cash to buy your son that birthday gift for his upcoming birthday party you forgot about this weekend. The Indians are not the Cleveland of old. Their lineup has been depleted in Free Agency and through injury, and this young White Sox lineup knows Corey well (especially All-Star first baseman, Jose Abreu, who holds a lifetime average of .320 against the righty including 5 bombs and 12 RBI). The White Sox play Cleveland well, and their still agitated about Machado’s decision to pass on them. Look for the White Sox to use that added motivation to snag a W in today’s series finale.

Pick: Chicago White Sox (100 to win 155)

G. Marquez (1-0; 1.50) v C. Morton (1-0; 3.60)

The Tampa Bay Rays have been the early surprise this season in the AL jumping to a quick 5-1 record and outscoring their opponents 21-5 since dropping their first game to the Astros. Their pitching has been dominant and their offense has scored early averaging nearly 2 runs through the first 3 innings of each of their last 5 games. The Rockies are no slouch, and are looking to avoid the sweep this afternoon, but sometimes you have to take what life gives ya and don’t ask questions. Grab the Rays while the cooking’s hot.

Pick: Tampa Rays (100 to win 80)

K. Gibson (0-0; --) v H. Bailey (0-0; --)

How the mighty have fallen….Just a short time ago the Kansas City Royals were the cream of the crop in the MLB – boasting the league’s top rated defense and highest scoring offense. Those days are now over as the blue and gold have fallen back to our lovable losers. Here at the Stoop, we feast on those losers. The Minnesota Twinkies, although not flashy, have grinded their way to a 3-1 start to grab the early lead in the AL Central, and today we will reap the fruits of that labor. Every #BPS has 1 good snoozer thrown in and this game will be that. But rest is a terrible excuse to miss out on money. Ride the Twins.

Pick: Minnesota Twins (100 to win 62)

R. Ray (0-0; 5.40) v J. Lucchesi (1-0; 0.00)

The Diamondbacks have dominated the Padres through the first 2 games of this series, outscoring San Diego 18-8. The Padres hitting has gone cold and their pitching looks like something out of a beer and softball league – lollipops all around, but today is a new day. I went ahead and checked the weather report for our “matinee” today (I know, I’m awesome) and what do you know…it came up all Padres….67 AND SUNNY! The Padres rock and roll when the sun’s out and today will be no different. Robbie “Rocket” Ray has no chance against these sun warriors as the San Diego Dads party like its 1999 (s/o Prince). Padres avoid the sweep, AND …. I think a certain someone (cough, cough – Manny Machado) slugs their first bomb today. Who knows? I’m just a baseball savant.

Pick: San Diego Padres (100 to win 71)
