Degenerate's Digest v.51

Halloween Weekend! The scariest part about this week is that the Digest has had losing record after losing record in the month of October. We need to flip that narrative and go into November strong. I hoped in my car, drove down to 9th and Catherine, grabbed me a Walker Family Traditional Halloween Tomato Pie from Sarcones, ate a slice, sat down, and made my picks. If that isn’t the method for success, I don’t know what is. Let’s have some fun today, keep up with the spooky vibes, but don’t let Vegas scare you.

Memphis @ (7) Cincinnati: Cincinnati -6.5

After seeing the Bearcats steamroll a hot, offensive SMU team last week – there’s one thing I can say. Cincinnati is doing all the little things right. They prepare well, and are able to perform in situations where they previously haven’t been able to. Memphis is heating up right now, especially on the offensive side of the ball. But I think the nastiness we saw on defense from the Bearcats last weekend was all we need to know that while this matchup may be heated and close at the jump, ultimately Cincinnati will have more stops at the end of the game than the Tigers.

Final Score: Cincinnati 38, Memphis 24

(16) Kansas State @ West Virginia: Kansas State +5.5

West Virginia is 3-0 at home this season, but also 0-2 when giving up more than 100 yards rushing. Kansas State is coming in with true freshman Will Howard, who is still getting his feet wet in this offense after Skylar Thompson went down with a season ending injury a couple weeks ago. Since Howard's first appearance, the Wildcats have had no problem getting to that 100-yard rushing mark. Long story short – I think this game is going to be close. The Wildcat defense has stepped up of late, and they do what they need to do to allow their offense to have chances to keep the scoreboard close. Look for a late win for the Mountaineers, but you take the points here for a deservedly ranked Kansas State squad.

Final Score: West Virginia 27, Kansas State 24

(4) Notre Dame @ Georgia Tech: Notre Dame -20.5

Notre Dame came out after a tough game against Louisville and absolutely wiped the turf of Heinz Field with the Pittsburgh Panthers blood last weekend. A 45-3 victory against a squad who I would imagine could blow the doors off Georgia Tech is a statement. That statement is why you’re riding with the Golden Domers today. I like Georgia Tech and their program, Jeff Sims is a guy to build around. But their defense just does not have it talent wise, regardless of heart. I’m hopeful Notre Dame is alive and alert and not looking past this matchup to Clemson week, and I don’t think Brian Kelly will allow them to. Make another statement, and see if you’re lucky enough to face a Trevor Lawrence-less Tigers team a week from today.

Final Score: Notre Dame 45, Georgia Tech 20

LSU @ Auburn: LSU -2

It’s pretty wild that I had to write that matchup above out without putting any numbers in front of the team names. Both of these squads have had their fair share of ups and downs this season. But to me, the biggest down of them all is Bo Nix. Dude is a wet blanket. I could not have been more wrong about him. Hand up, that’s on me. My eyes now turn to ol’ faithful. My history with Coach O is one for the ages. No one in the world of sports gambling has had a past like the one between myself and Coach O. I haven’t spoken to him much since he won the national championship last year, but when I saw the news of how he was taking his divorce of late, well, it got me focused on the new Tigers team again. My main point of focus being production. Regardless of the 2-2 record, the Tigers have been able to put up an average 42 points per game with a fairly new offense. If this game ends up being a shootout, you can’t put faith in Bo Nix. If this game is not a shootout, it’s not going to be War Eagle chants floating through Jordan-Hare Stadium. I just don’t see anyway LSU doesn’t come out on top here, 2 points is a buy-low in my opinion. Geaux.

Final Score: LSU 38, Auburn 27

Mississippi State @ (2) Alabama: Alabama -30.5

I’ve bet on Alabama 3 weeks straight now. They are keeping the damn lights on. You know exactly where this is headed. Don’t question it, just ride it out.

Final Score: Alabama 45, Mississippi State 13

Running Record: (65-48-2)
