Well here we are damn near a month later and the college football playoff is finally here. TCU/Mighican, and Ohio State/Georgia. Before we hop into these, a quick comment on the past couple weeks of bowl games. If you’ve been following along on Twitter, we have had official picks being made for these regardless of there not being a blog written for them. It just felt like too much to go through each and every bowl game in blog form. If you haven’t been following these picks because you only read the blog and not my Twitter feed (@joeydigest), you haven’t missed too much. I’m historically terrible at betting bowl games, but this year it wasn’t the bloodbath I expected. 9-10-1 with a few left to go. I will continue to bring those picks to Twitter exclusively - so tail the remainder of these if you dare. Onto the playoff.

Vrbo Fiesta Bowl

(3) TCU @ (2) Michigan: Michigan -7.5

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

(4) Ohio State @ (1) Georgia: Georgia -6

Now, I wanted to group these two games together in a breakdown because the thought process for both is the same. That thought process is, I don’t understand the lines. Why are these so low? Michigan should clearly skullfuck TCU after we saw the Horned Frogs flaws against K State. And Georgia should dominate a Buckeyes squad who in the month of November alone struggled against Northwestern and Maryland, and was handed their only loss of the season to an inferior (to Georgia) Michigan team.

When looking at the public betting, Michigan opened at -9.5 and with 60% of the bets on the Wolverines, the line has dropped for them to -7.5. What’s up with that? Georgia’s line hasn’t budged regardless of 70% of the bets (but only 53% of the money hmmmm) on the Bulldogs. Why?

There’s only one thing I can do in a situation like this and just trust my gut. I can’t let Vegas get in my head. We’re taking the teams we know are better and should reflect accordingly on the scoreboard. I refuse to believe TCU or Ohio State win these games outright let alone sniff a cover. Lock it up, throw away the key.

Final Score: Michigan 42, TCU 20

Final Score: Georgia 45, Ohio State 31

Running Record: (185-153-7)*

*I will add the final bowl game record to this when bowl season has concluded
