The Degenerate's Digest v.49

Morning assholes. Another college football Saturday, another slate of winners headed your way. I sometimes ask myself, why do you do this Joe? Why do you work on the weekends for the people? Especially for free? What’s in it for you? And then I remember the various fan DM's/emails/faxes/carrier pigeon letters I’ve gotten over the years giving thanks for allowing their kids to sleep warmly at night because my picks paid the Peco bill. I remember every year, a little earlier than the last, that the Christmas commercials I see on TV (starting now in like August?) keep rolling because most of those gifts are purchased with Digest money across the country. And when I check my article analytics each week, there are always some pings over in the middle east. I can only think that I bring joy and possibly some coin to our boots on the ground (those pings are definitely troops, not click farms). If they can sacrifice their lives, living without weekend, the least I can do is provide advice every Saturday morning to win the people money. Mercury is in retrograde this week, look for some teams’ performances last week to be a distant memory today. Let’s take advantage of that and ride into the night victorious.

(1) Clemson @ Georgia Tech: Home Team Total U18.5

The only time Clemson has given up more than 18 points this season was on a prime time road game against Virginia, where they allowed 23 points to be scored. The final score of that game came with just minutes left in the fourth when Clemson was up by a hundred. Now I expect Georgia Tech to be all kinds of rallied up for this game, they are a team with tons of heart and comradery. With that said, I expect that heart and passion to come on the defensive side of the ball for maybe the first quarter… maybe. I don’t see their offense (who did just put up 46 against fraudulent Louisville last week (even though GT had the ball the entire game)), being able to get past 20 today. And I definitely don’t see 19… that’s not a thing against Clemson.

Final Score: Clemson 42, Georgia Tech 17

Kentucky @ (18) Tennessee: Home Team Total O26.5

I know, last week I bet against Tennessee and said this was the time of year where they kind of come back down to earth. I wasn’t entirely wrong, the bet hit (I doubled down on it by the way sorry you didn't listen @ Manager Mark). With that said, they had me sweating a bit… and they had me sweating against GEORGIA! If they can put up 21 points on the Bulldogs defense (I know the first touchdown was a punt return), I just don’t see how they can’t get it going offensively against the Wildcats. Yes, a Wildcats team that only allowed 2 points to Mississippi State last weekend. You don’t think that defense is coming into Neyland Stadium with their heads held maybe a little too high? Jarrett Guarantano has been impressive to start, and if he can keep an accurate ball in the air today to Josh Palmer, Brandon Johnson, and Ramel Keyton – there’s no reason this game shouldn’t be more reliant on the offensive side of the ball for both squads.

Final Score: Tennessee 32, Kentucky 28

Ole Miss @ Arkansas: Ole Miss -1.5

Arkansas has been pretty damn decent of late and surprising me a good deal. But even after having played Georgia, Mississippi State, and Auburn – they have not faced an offense like Ole Miss yet. I’m not saying their defense won’t be able to get their shots in at times, but if this game is reliant on keeping up the pace offensively, it really shouldn’t be close. Lane Kiffin has the Rebels rolling, don’t question this one too much. There’s a reason the O/U is set at 76.5.

Final Score: Ole Miss 45, Arkansas 32

(5) UNC @ Florida State: UNC -13.5

Florida State fucking sucks.

Final Score: UNC 42, Florida State 21

(3) Georgia @ (2) Alabama: Over 58.5

I want to start out by saying that I love Alabama in this game. You take Alabama anytime they’re favored by less than 10 points, today they are favored by a mere 5. You take it, it’s that simple. As for the pick, I just got done explaining that the Tennessee Volunteer’s were able to put up 21 on Georgia. You don’t think Mac Jones and Alabama can double that without a sweat? I don’t care if Saban is coaching from a SpaceX satellite hovering over the Himalayas. Both of these offenses score – especially Alabama. Both of these defenses have holes – especially Alabama. You take the over here. Oh, and for you nerds out there that need numbers…

· Alabama is averaging 51 points on offense, and allowing just over 30 points on defense per game

· Georgia is averaging 36 points on offense

Final Score: Alabama 35, Georgia 28

Running Record: (61-42-2)
